Patiently waiting to meet someone new and share what I do
Hello team!
Thank you for voting for the topic of this week’s Substack!! I hope it helps as you position yourself, network and meet new people. Whether you’re looking for work, partnerships, collabs or new clients, please try this out and remember, practice makes perfect! I promise the more you do this, the easier it becomes and the more traction you get :)
I’ve been going to lots of events recently (see a recent recap of one I wrote about here) and while they haven’t been marketed as networking events, they technically could be if you wanted them to be.
One of the things I missed most about NYC was the sense that something is always happening. There’s always someone to meet and somewhere to go.
In a city like this, showing up fully, clearly and confidently is part of the work.
It’s also the part many people skip.
Step one
Define your personal brand including your voice, your values, your flavour, how you help people etc. etc.
Step two
Create your pitch. It’s not just about what you say but how you say it and who you say it to. This is the difference between communications vs. strategic communications.
Step three
Live it. Speak it. Show up in a room and share who you are and what you do.
To help you create your pitch, I love this framework from entrepreneur Daniel Priestley and often share it with client because it helps bridge the gap between brand identity and real-world resonance.
It speaks to your past, present, and future vision allowing the person in front of you to understand who you are and what you're about in under 30 seconds.
Here it is:
Name – Introduce yourself and your business name.
Same – Relate your work to something familiar that the other person already understands.
Fame – What makes you stand out? Share what makes you interesting, any major achievements, notable brands you've worked with, big numbers, awards, or recognitions.
Aim – What are you currently focused on? Outline what you’re working on in the next 90 days.
Game – What’s your bigger vision? Share what you want to achieve in the next 3–6 years.
Here’s an example of mine in action:
Name – Hi I’m Tish, I’m a brand and business alignment coach
Same – I work with founders, consultants and small business owners looking to grow their business through brand development
Fame – My background is in the VC backed startup space working across USA and UK, one valued at 1B and another at 62M
Aim – I’m currently building my community and coaching arm in NYC
Game – I want to create a incubator and hub for creatives and consultants to do the inner and outer work needed to grow a business that monetises their natural skills, abilities and gifts
You don’t need to have a perfectly polished elevator pitch, but you do need to know who you are, what you offer, and what you’re building—because the world responds when you're clear.
And in cities like NYC, that clarity can open doors you didn’t even know were there.
If someone asked you right now:
What are you working on?
What’s your vision?
What makes you, you?
Would you be ready?
If not, maybe this is your sign to sit down and write out your Name / Same / Fame / Aim / Game.
And if you want support refining it, I’m here for that too!
Lots of love!!!
Tish
