If I was to distil down my experience across start-ups, agency life, in-house and the solo game to define how I feel my version of success would be achieved….I’d say it boils down to resilience and a deep core belief in what I do and why I’m doing it.
But how do we get there and where do we start? Looking at yourself and looking inwards is work and it’s a choice. I appreciate that for some this may not feel comfortable. I appreciate that this may feel unnecessary or not a priority but what I’m learning is this is essential…for me at least.
How can we build resilience if our sence of self is unsteady? How can we back ourselves if we have low self confidence? How can we show up for our team if we’re not feeling regulated? How can we lead with compassion and kindness if we don’t give those things to ourselves?
What I’m getting at is that it starts with us. So when you’re starting a business, when you’re building a personal brand, or when you’re going to that interview for a new job, it has to start with us. That means understand who we are, what we value, how we work, what makes us come alive, what we’re relatively shit at and where to we add and bring value to.
I don’t think these things just come to you. It takes carving out time to think about these things and typically not in a day. It’s a journey and it’s a process but one that I believe is integral to ones happiness and ability to weather the storm that life often throws at us.
Just a brain dump on this Wednesday… let me know what you think?
