Dropping perfectionism opens the door for progress.
For anyone here who’s been following me closely over the past year, you would have seen many iterations of “me” and also what I do and offer. When I went out solo I knew I could do brand and marketing as I’d proven that through the companies I worked for and the incredible mentoring and nurturing I received from countless amazing people. When it came to doing that for myself, it was a completely different story.
Creating a brand and marketing yourself takes practice. For some it may come easy but for most it’s straight out WEIRD. There’s so much sh*t that comes up like who am I, why me, how am I different or unique, what’s my gift and how do I communicate that to the world, I hate social media so how do I market myself in a way that feels like me etc etc etc the list goes on.
Despite having an idea of what I wanted to say and offer, it was only until I put things out in the world and tried, tested and listened that I truly learned. There were so many times I nearly stopped myself from testing and trying because what I was posting or creating wasn’t perfect or I was scared it wouldn’t land but dropping this has been the most liberating and rewarding experience since going solo.
The intention of this brain dump is to encourage you to test and try. The way you’ll figure out what’s right for you and create something that will land with your audience and community is to try. The more you try and test, the more you’ll learn and grow. By putting things out into the world we gain learnings and start to understand what sticks, we listen to our people, and iterate for the next try.
It may feel super uncomfortable so make sure you appoint cheerleaders in your network that encourage you and help you every step of the way. Having people give you feedback and encourage you will be so so helpful, trust me.
So, here are 3 reasons to drop perfectionism and embrace our imperfections!
Perfectionism stops you from learning
Learning comes from doing
New things can trigger your nervous system into fight or flight. Don’t be deterred from the scary thing, know that it may start this way but it gets better with practice
To learn about our community and connect with our audience, we must try and test
Perfectionism puts pressure and stress on us
No one is perfect - we’re all trying and learning, so be kind to yourself
We’re constantly changing and evolving humans, show up as yourself today and be proud of who you are
You have no idea what game others are playing. Stay in your lane and stay on your team
Perfectionism kills creativity
We need to nurture our creativity and let ourselves play
We need to have fun and be joyful and fall over and make mistakes
We need to encourage ourselves to try, learn, test, play, fall, hop, skip and repeat.
Question: Try and fail. Try and succeed. Don’t try at all. Answer: Don’t try at all is the only wrong answer
Thanks for being here, grateful to have you <3
